Saturday – August 20 – 4:00 pm
Outdoor Show at Mt. Toby Concerts
194 Long Plain Rd., (Rt. 63), Leverett, MA
Tony Vacca has been a freelance percussionist/poet for over four decades, incorporating a world of percussion music and instruments to create something… all his own. Over the course of his career he has made a habit of pushing the already adventurous conventions of World Fusion Music into new territory, both as a soloist and as the leader of his World Rhythms Ensemble. Twenty-one trips to West Africa have contributed to his unique approach and to his depth of knowledge regarding the confluence of African and American musical traditions and innovations.
Over this past decade, Tony has incorporated some of his spoken word in his live concerts, and has just published a book of words called “The Rescue of Luminous Being.”
He has performed and/or recorded with Pop icon Sting, Jazz and world music legends Don Cherry, Yusef Lateef and Avery Sharpe; with world-renowned Senegalese vocalist Baaba Maal; with American-born vocalist/percussionist Vinx, and with American poets Abiodun Oyewole (of The Last Poets), Ms. Tantra Zawadi, and America’s Beat Poet laureate, Paul Richmond. All this in addition to his work as a soloist and his performing projects that include World Rhythms Ensemble, The Senegal-America Project, Fusion Nomads, Impulse Ensemble, and Do It Now.
Suggested donation: $20 to $30 (Pay as you are able)
Rain date: Saturday, August 27, 4:00 pm
